Trion Worlds' Blockbuster Titles
Last workweek members of the games press were invited to San Francisco to prospect a trey of games organism produced by Trion, straightaway called Trion Worlds. The event was held in a whacking room with the development team from each game in attending. The evening began with an initiation by Trion Worlds' CEO Lars Buttler. Buttler shortly introduced the new Trion name and outlined the visual sense:
- Neighboring games
- New server platforms
- Living worlds
- Expanding markets
- Natively high-definition graphics
- Mass media crosstie-in
- Young platforms
- Connections 'tween online gaming and television
Buttler said that the Trion Worlds' stable of games will bring totally of the above to players and that for each one component is essential to creating epic interpersonal environments.
Rift: Planes of Telara
Buttler turned the microphone over to Scott Hartsman, CCO of Trion Sequoia Shores. Hartsman spoke all but Rift: Planes of Telara. In the beginning called "Heroes of Telara", Rift has progressed a long way from last yr's E3 where IT was reasoned one of the near challenging games of the convention.
Rift: Planes of Telara fits neatly into the high fantasy MMORPG category. Rift contains features and character archetypes that will Be instantly familiar to MMO players. In that respect are eight character classes with front line fighters, rogues, and casters with A level cap of 50. The world of Telara is beset by 'rifts', tears in the roadblock protecting the citizens from the denizens of the underworld.
There are deuce factions inside Telara: The Guardians who use the power and might of the Gods; and The Defiants WHO apply their own powers. The 2 factions are at odds with one another over how best to dispense with the Rifts yet both are hot with protective Telara.
Telara is a gorgeously rendered world. Developers proudly spoke of over 10,000 individual animations within the gimpy and it shows. The character movement is fluid and life history-like. Telara's stinky def graphics are dishy, though a bit 'neon' for my try. But information technology is still early so hopefully that will change. Content is streaming so there are no load screens to be found.
MMORPG players leave delight in the CORE MMO features that are enclosed and find new features intriguing. The halting is set up to be non-competitive in the sense that Rifts wide-eyed either by device (player opening) or design (at a time discovered by devs). Players in the neighbourhood of an hatchway Rift can join in and share experience and loot without being forced to group. With adequate to ten stages in each Rift's 'event', there is deal to go around even if a player dies. Loot follows direct Death and straight-grained across the humankind when a corner pops finished to on the job players close to what was attained eventually left behind.
Rift: Planes of Telara is currently in its alpha stage of development and is regular for a 2011 release. Devs were very cagey well-nig a more specific date sol fans will take to be contentedness with 2011.
End of Nations
Mike Legg from Petroglyph Games spoke about the MMORTS, Closing of Nations and Petroglyph's teaser video enkindled the room! Petroglyph knows RTS as the core of developers is filled with folks WHO worked on blockbuster RTS games such every bit the Compel & Stamp down series, Panzer General and some more. But what Legg revealed ain't your mama's substantial sentence strategy game.
End of Nations is bent create a new genre of scheme games on a massive scale with thousands of players online simultaneously with vast maps. EoN will constitute a unforgettable world with the actions and victories of players literally changing the world. EoN will bring new features to RTS including a 'drop in and play' feature. With this, players log on, see what's happening on the world map, take their units, airlift units to the appropriate map out and bring. As of last Thursday nighttime, Petroglyph had 51 players simultaneously along one map. If that doesn't bowl over the mind, nothing will! According to Legg, there's no cap to the number of players WHO can Be present on a single represent.
EoN has big ambitions to not only change the mode RTS games are played but to bring new fans to the musical style. As a result, thither are very much of features in the lame that MMORPG players volition recognize and apprize: Manufacturing (crafting), a admirer list, search & development (recipes), achievements, missions (quests), vendors, loot, character archetypes and more. When watching devs play the game, I felt very comfortable with the MMORPG elements that I saw. In fact, this is probably the first time I've looked at an RTS game without sneering and immediately running away. For the first fourth dimension, RTS players throne choose a 'function' inside the spirited rather than having to be the 'master of entirely'. You can literally be the DPS tank by focusing on the collection of tank units. In fact, completing units gives players unit of measurement boosts as well.
Graphically, End of Nations is light years forrade of any strategy crippled out there. Information technology looks like an MMORPG with beautiful 3D artwork. There are trees, mountains, weewe, deserts and more. The world actually looks like the world and not like a roadmap. The attention to detail is terrific too. When devs zoomed in on the unit of measurement that was calling in a napalm strike, the three tiny soldiers inner were busily pushing buttons and self-propelling about the interior.
There is a lot to like or so End of Nations for fans of RTS and for fans of RPG. End of Nations is too slated for a 2011 press release.
Syfy Action MMO
Rob Hill from Trion San Diego spoke selfsame briefly about the new collaboration between the Syfy Channel and Trion. The idea is to bring gaming and television together in a new action MMO. There is no title for the game as one of these days but we did larn few details:
- Lots of gun fighting
- Fomite play
- MMOFPS
- Global events
- One universe between TV and game
- Identical factions
- Recognizable technologies and characters
The television receiver show and the game are in simultaneous development with creators impermanent closely to incorporate one some other. James Jerome Hill spoke about the fact that game play can mold what happens on the TV show and frailty versa. In unrivaled example, Hill said that series characters might speak nigh an in-game guild that accomplished some heroic/heinous deed.
On the far side the selfsame basics, not much other was revealed about the Syfy game. We did non see it in legal action and it was not accessible for demonstration aside devs. We'll keep you posted!
All of Trion Worlds' games have the "Treble A" look to them and we'll cost following them closely A time goes on.
